Swap in Linux

Had a swap space allocated but it was not mounted as so, and my computer had regular memory problems.

So what I did was,

  • checked the swap partition first
  • added the entry in /etc/fstab file as
    • /dev/sda3 none swap sw 0 0
  • sudo swapon -a
  • checked by using cat /proc/swaps and it was found the following
    • /dev/sda3 partition 1052248 423616 -1
